REO 9100 stores up to 66 TB raw capacity on a platform with near-instantaneous RAID 5 data recovery to create a reliable and highly available disk data backup system. Protection OS storage management software allows REO 9100 to be administered remotely using secure browser-based management and provides for the creation of dynamically sized virtual tape drives to fit the size of individual backup jobs. Most important, the REO 9100 works with existing backup applications that were designed to support tape devices, which allows deployment and integration into existing backup environments - making REO 9100 and Protection OS embedded data protection software an ideal backup appliance for tiered storage environments.
The REO 9100 can be easily configured as disk volumes (LUNs), virtual tape drives, and/or a virtual tape library for maximum flexibility. And the patent-pending Dynamic Virtual Tape (DVT) ensures that no storage capacity is wasted while eliminating the manual effort and guesswork of sizing, configuring, provisioning, and deleting virtual tape cartridges. With DVT, users can create virtual tape cartridges that automatically expand or shrink as needed to match the exact capacity requirements of the backup operation.
REO 9100c Hardware Compression
The hardware compression option effectively doubles the useable virtual tape capacity of the REO 9100 and connected expansion arrays, making it the most cost effective way to store more backup data on disk. The combination of hardware compression and Dynamic Virtual Tape ensure REO is the most efficient and cost effective VTL available.

High capacity—the REO 9100 scales up to 18 TB and 66 TB total with expansion arrays, per unit to address high capacity backup applications. Adding hardware compression allows up to 114TB usable virtual tape capacity and also makes the most economical use of power, cooling and rack space.
High-speed performance—dual RAID controllers
and dual high-speed connections to storage networks enable the REO
9100 to recover business critical data at disk-speeds while helping
to complete backups inside the backup window.
Flexible connectivity—-utilizing dual GbE data
ports with the option of adding dual 4 Gb Fibre Channel ports, the
REO 9100 seamlessly integrates into existing storage networks.
Increased data availability—-with hot-swap
disk drives and power supplies, RAID 5 data recovery protection and
hot-sparing, the REO 9100 provides a high level of data availability.
Broad platform support—including Solaris, Microsoft®
Windows®, and Linux, coupled with support for major third-party software
applications, allows the REO 9100 to operate across a broad base of
storage environments. REO 9100 users can quickly benefit from the
ability to achieve rapid recovery of backup data from disk while continuing
to rely on tape for long-term archival storage.
